SUS-MIRRI.IT is happy to share with you the Algal training course The 13th Advanced Phytoplankton Course (APC13) is organized by the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn (SZN) together with the Station Biologique de Roscoff (SBR), the IOC Science and Communication Centre on Harmful Algae (IOC SCCHA) and the IOC UNESCO Ocean Teacher Global Academy (OTGA).

The 13th Advanced Phytoplankton Course (APC13) is organized by the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn (SZN) together with the Station Biologique de Roscoff (SBR), the IOC Science and Communication Centre on Harmful Algae (IOC SCCHA) and the IOC UNESCO Ocean
Teacher Global Academy (OTGA).
APC13 aims to provide participants with up-to-date expert knowledge on the identification, and taxonomy of marine diatoms, dinoflagellates, coccolithophores, and other phytoflagellates by integrating morphological observations with molecular data and new imaging approaches.
The intensive 3-week course will consist of lectures and practical sessions, with a diverse collection of preserved and live material examined in light microscopy and identified with upto-date taxonomic literature. Course topics will also include aspects of phytoplankton
classification, molecular phylogeny, cell ultrastructure, ecology, biodiversity and biogeography and harmful algal blooms.
Tutors are renown phytoplankton experts:
– Nicolas Chomerat, IFREMER, Concarneau, France
– Bente Edvardsen, University of Oslo, Norway
– Wiebe H.C.F. Kooistra, SZN, Naples, Italy
– Carina B. Lange, University of Concepción, Chile
– Jacob Larsen, IOC UNESCO SCCHA, Denmark
– Nina Lundholm, University of Copenhagen, Denmark
– Øjvind Moestrup, University of Copenhagen, Denmark
– Marina Montresor, SZN, Naples, Italy
– Ian Probert, SBR, Roscoff, France
– Diana Sarno, SZN, Naples, Italy
– Urban Tillmann, Alfred Wegener Institute, Bremerhaven, Germany
– Daniel Vaulot, SBR, Roscoff, France & University of Oslo, Norway
– Adriana Zingone, SZN, Naples, Italy
Attendance is limited to 20 participants with PhD, MSc degree or equivalent, and with professional working knowledge of phytoplankton identification. The Course is held in English.
The registration fee of € 800 includes lunches (also vegetarian options), coffee breaks and social activities; it does not include travel and living expenses.
